Tragedy struck in Nairobi’s Eastleigh area when a building under construction collapsed, resulting in the death of at least four workers. The incident occurred along Muratina Road on a fateful Saturday afternoon while the workers were actively engaged in construction activities.
Nairobi’s police boss, Adamson Bungei, confirmed the grim news, stating that the collapse led to the immediate death of four workers. Additionally, six others sustained injuries and were promptly rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
“We have confirmed four deaths, and there are six injuries so far. We are investigating the tragedy,” remarked Bungei. He assured that the workers on duty had been accounted for, minimizing the possibility of finding more individuals in the rubble.
Despite this assurance, the rescue and search mission continued as authorities worked diligently to assess the extent of the tragedy. The collapse adds to a series of similar incidents in the city, raising concerns about the construction boom in Nairobi and Kiambu, where many buildings exceed six floors.
There is a growing apprehension that some of these structures might lack proper supervision and adherence to safety standards, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced oversight in the booming construction industry in the region. Authorities are expected to delve into the circumstances surrounding the collapse as part of their ongoing investigation.
