The sinister sequence of events unfolded on Sunday at 5 AM when the suspect contacted Rita’s father, demanding a hefty ransom of Sh 500,000. It is reported that Rita’s phone was utilized by the assailant to extort money from her father before carrying out the gruesome act.

Questions have been raised about the response time of law enforcement, with assertions that had the police acted swiftly, Rita’s life might have been spared. Rita’s father promptly reported the incident to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) after the killer’s ransom demand. However, it appears that the detectives took considerable time to initiate actions that could have potentially saved Rita.
In a perplexing turn of events, detectives from the DCI are now backtracking after a suspect, arrested on Tuesday at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) just before attempting to leave the country, turned out to be the wrong person. The individual, a Nigerian man, was using a Mozambican passport for travel.
The case has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the need for a thorough and expedited investigation to bring the perpetrator to justice and shed light on the circumstances leading to this heinous crime.
